Hong Kong's first collaborative "Inclusive Guided Tour" for the deaf and hearing-impaired. Diversity and inclusiveness, art is not hindered, creating a brand new Textile Culture and Art Museum experience

Info

Since its opening five years ago, CHAT Factory No. 6 (Textile Culture and Art Museum No. 6) has been committed to implementing the concept of "a textile culture and art museum that belongs to everyone". This month, it launched Hong Kong's first spoken-language guided tour co-led by deaf and hearing docents. and sign language bilingual "Inclusive Guided Tour" brings a unique and meaningful museum experience.

CHAT Factory 6 hopes to promote collaboration and understanding between deaf and hearing people through this innovative experience. The two deaf and hearing guides are not only the tour guides of the exhibition, but also important intermediaries in guiding visitors' curiosity. Through visual expressions in spoken and sign language, they lead visitors to explore the historical development of Hong Kong's textile industry, including the processes and processes of industrial cotton spinning. The untold stories of former cotton mill workers look back on Hong Kong's golden years. In this new experience that integrates education, diverse perspectives and entertainment, docents, one deaf and one hearing, will guide everyone on a multi-sensory exploration and think about the concept of an inclusive society.

The inclusive guided tour is sponsored by the Robert H. N. Ho Family Hong Kong Foundation and fully supported by the Center for Sign Language and Deaf Studies at the Chinese University of Hong Kong. Language Bridge Social Capital, a charity established by the CUHK team, is also involved, providing professional sign language bilingual services such as guided tour design, sign language vocabulary development, and collaborative training for the deaf and hearing-impaired. The entire project is jointly planned and executed by museum professionals, scholars and social service practitioners. It creates a harmonious and diverse museum environment through an interactive guided tour experience in collaboration with the deaf and hearing-impaired, echoing CHAT Factory 6’s long history of promoting diversity by creating unique cultural experiences. The mission of an inclusive community.

Hong Kong's first deaf-hearing collaborative guided tour will be held every Sunday starting from September. No reservation is required and visitors of any age can participate for free. In addition to enhancing their understanding of the history of Hong Kong's textile industry, participants can also gain a deeper understanding of the basic usage and importance of sign language, experience cultural diversity, and jointly promote understanding and tolerance among different communities. Let’s explore the charm of Hong Kong’s textile culture and art together!
