The report showed that among the 12 Federal Reserve districts, two reported moderate economic growth, three reported slight growth, four reported modest growth, and three reported essentially flat economic activity. On prices, three districts described overall price increases as strong, while eight described them as moderate. Among them, three noted that input price pressures are intensifying and even becoming strong.
The report stated: 'Firms said diesel prices remain high, and fuel surcharges are transmitting rising costs throughout the supply chain.'
Consumer spending showed polarization: high-income households showed more resilient spending, while middle- and low-income households cut non-essential expenditures. Manufacturing performance was mixed, and the residential real estate market weakened. Employment levels were generally flat overall, with hiring mainly to fill vacancies. Skilled labor remained in short supply, wage growth has largely returned to normal, and the immediate impact of artificial intelligence on employment has been limited. (yc)
