入選建築（87）：中銀大廈

中銀大廈的故事:

　　位於港島中區花園道，原址為美利樓的中銀大廈，1989年落成，是當時亞洲最高的大樓。為父親曾任中國銀行行長的世界著名華裔建築師貝聿銘設計。樓高70層的中銀大廈，部分頂樓及底座為中銀所用，其餘樓層均作出租用途。基座以麻石為外牆，塔樓用玻璃幕牆。低層呈正方形平面，中、高層以三角形漸次遞減。令到立面由平變斜，象徵節節向上。這種以幾何變化的設計，正是貝聿銘常用的建築手法。充滿立體幾何形狀的中銀大廈，是香港地標之一。

Bank of China Tower

　　Sited on Garden Road in Central on Hong Kong Island, Bank of China Tower was constructed on the site previously occupied by Murray House. The building was completed in 1989 and became the tallest building in Asia at that time. Bank of China Tower was designed by renowned Chinese-American architect I.M. Pei, whose father was Former President of Bank of China. The Bank uses its ground block and partial top floor, while other floors of this seventy-storey tower are for renting. The exterior wall of the foundation was built with granite and the tower was constructed with curtain walls. While the lower levels were in squared shapes with flat facade, the middle and higher levels were presented in diminishing triangular shapes, transforming the façade into diagonal, upward turning tower resembling a bamboo shoot which extends its trunk higher and higher with each new burst of growth. The design with changing geometry patterns is Pei’s signature. The multi-dimensional, geometrical Bank of China Tower is a landmark of Hong Kong.
