1. A long shot 機會微乎其微；不太會成功的嘗試
這個慣用語來自體育運動，例如籃球運動員嘗試遠距離射擊(i.e., shoot from a long distance) 。 "A long shot"意味著「發生的機會很低」。
例句：
Reaching our sales goal this quarter is a long shot because of the economy.
由於經濟原因，本季度我們不太可能能完成銷售目標。
2. By the book 嚴格按規則辦事；按部就班
“By the book” 的意思是循規蹈矩、照章辦事。
例句：
In our company, doing by the book is the most effective way to get things down.
在我們公司中，按部就班是解決問題的最有效方法。
3. To get someone up to speed 讓某人趕上進度；讓某人快速了解狀況
例句：
I’ll take the time to get you up to speed before we go to the conference.

4. Back to square one 回到原點
“Back to square one” 意指經過一番討論、計劃之後，因某原因被迫回到起點。
例句：

5. To cut corners 偷工減料；走捷徑
