[ET Net News Agency, 16 February 2021] Goldman Sachs hosted Xiaomi's (01810) CFO Alain
Lam on 10 February. The research house said the discussion reaffirms its positive stance
on Xiaomi.
It noted that Xiaomi's (1) successful execution of its Smartphone X AIoT strategy on the
back of a strong product pipeline (Redmi K40, Mi 11) fueled by ample R&D spending (looks
for 30-40% R&D spending growth in 2021 as per the Chairman), (2) proliferation of the
retail sales network in China as Xiaomi looks to expand offline coverage to all counties
by end-2021, (3) upside for internet services revenue in both domestic and international
markets, through enhanced bargaining power on premiumization and improving smartphone
market share, and (4) more clarity on its investment portfolio (Rmb60bn) strategy, after
Goldman's scan-through of 348 of Xiaomi's investee companies.
Goldman retained its "buy" call on Xiaomi, with an unchanged target price of HK$30.5.
