{I-bank focus}More Macau visitors seen on quarantine easing

[ET Net News Agency, 14 July 2020] Jefferies Research said the easing of the compulsory
14-day quarantine for arrivals in Guangdong (effective 15 July) is a positive surprise,
given the research house expected the Greater Bay border restriction to be in concert with
Hong Kong.
Jefferies believes this could be an incremental step to border reopening and will lead
to higher visitation and profitability, albeit below normal levels until the resumption of
IVS (individual visit scheme). It expects the positive reaction to continue beyond the
initial move upward on the news.
China had stopped issuing IVS at the end of January, with Guangdong arrivals declining
98% to 25,270. With the 14-day compulsory Guangdong quarantine implemented from 27 March,
which led to 4,537 arrivals in May. This compares to 1.1 million monthly arrivals from
Guangdong in 2019. (KL)
